Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
